Making Raves
by rsbakker
Aphorism of the Day: Success is something everyone but you gets to decide.
Been busy wandering the Thousand Thousand Halls.
Although not reviewed, The White-Luck Warrior found its way into this past weekend’s The Globe and Mail (which is Canada’s newspaper of record, for those of you stuck in less commodious parts of the world). This is big news simply because any fiction without a Midlife Crisis, Sordid Affair, and Ambivalent Protagonist that gets mentioned in The Globe and Mail Book Section is big news. My wife seems to think this act robs me of the ability to bitch and grouse…
Far more important community-wise, both Adam and Larry, definitely two of the most respected voices in the fantasy blogosphere, have posted their e-verdicts. The Beast seems to be garnering some genuine raves. If the Whore is kind, perhaps it’ll make some waves as well.
If not, my guess is that The Unholy Consult ultimately will, whether I sustain the same level of execution or not. It’s the story that’s in charge now. There’s a reason this project has tyrannized my imagination for 25 years.
Damn it Scott, you really know how to hype your “shit” 😀 Can’t wait! A week to go until I get my copy of WLW.
Great news Scott. Just finished WLW, your best yet in my opinion. Keep fighting the good fight, I’ll keep buying your books.
Congrats, Scott! I am going out of my mind waiting for Thursday. This has been the slowest week in recent memory. Just need to finish my second re-read of Judging Eye…
I can’t wait for the new novel, I’m stoked!
less then 75 pages from finishing TWLW. Constantly amazed. I feel like you’ve gotten braver, more bold in your exploration of your own amazing ability to write. The book is full of poetry. And utterly horrific.
If you haven’t heard it enough yet, WLW was gold. It has become the only book I’ve ever reread back to back.
I have a question about the class you’ll be teaching. I was look at signing up and a serpate, similar course code also comes up. One is the course your link directed to and the other is essentially the same except it starts at what would be midsemester. Am I to believe it’s possible to sign up solely for the content you’ll be teaching?
“There’s a reason this project has tyrannized my imagination for 25 years.”
It must be nice to have such a cool story to tell that it makes you write. I would love to write, but I have no story to tell.
Just ordered my copy last night. Looking forward to it.
two…. days.
I get WLW tomorrow, which is unusual, since I thought the book released in the US next week, but I GUESS I can handle getting it sooner.
Even if it throws off my Prince of Nothing/Judging Eye re-read schedule.
Which I’m doing, by the way. I have to say, I think it’s a whole lot better the second time through, even considering how much I enjoyed it the first time.
Great news, Scott! You’re work speaks for itself, but it’s nice to hear praise from others. I’m dying to get my copy of TWLW.
As soon as it arrives, I’m sure that I’ll be compelled to come here and post a response.
I’m glad that you’re getting the credit you deserve.
This is big news simply because any fiction without a Midlife Crisis, Sordid Affair, and Ambivalent Protagonist that gets mentioned in The Globe and Mail Book Section is big news.
I would have thought the series does contain the last two elements? Sure, it doesn’t revolve those elements, but it’s not without them. Specialty channels overlap somewhat?
Though with mid-life crisis, yeah, all the characters are so close to grisly death that they aren’t so presumptuous to think they are at the ‘mid’ of anything.
congrats!!! My copy comes in the mail today!!!!! 23 more minutes until I can go home to read it….I know, I’m lame.
Carrie if you’re lame, I’m the lamest. Amazon says tomorrow, but here’s hoping its waiting on my doorstep when I come home from work…. right about now.
