Wahoo! for anyone with a pinterest account, there’s a whole crap load of Bakker book cover art on one of the bakkerfans boards. there is, however, more to add when i get the time! 🙂
from that board, the Polish cover of Disciple of the Dog (Perfect Memory):
What I’d want for Neuropath is that the exploding fragments, on the right hand side of the cover, form Neils face in the red of the background between the chunks. So he exists as an inversion of our thoughts. Indeed, it’s only our shattered thoughts that would make him seem to exist from the red at all. *Mr Torgue* Subtext!!! */Mr Torgue*
Well, they both depict a male figure and a circle. I always imagined it as DaVinci’s Vitruvian Man upside down… though I know Kellhus doesn’t have multiple arms and legs!
I took it down because it’s out-of-date. I scrapped the draft I was working on and have started all over again. I may post some of the new version, if folks are interested (I don’t know — it might be better for me to hang back until I’ve gotten more of the book finished); but anyway, at this point I suspect that just about everyone who would be interested is probably sick and tired of reading different versions of the opening chapters to the same goddamn book!
There’s really no reason to read any of the old drafts. I mean, if you just curious, go for it. But they’re all on the cutting-room floor now. I’d rather send you the early drafts of the new stuff!
You know, I told myself I was going to ‘hang back’ from the internet for a while, try to focus in. But fuck it. I could really use some feedback on the opening chapters of the new draft, to see how effective (or not) they are in drawing readers in… So I say let’s go for it… again! I can get it all set up, of course. Maybe you could write me a new ‘intro’?
Awesome. Does that portend the series going Sci-fi/Fantasy mainstream? Perhaps when the next book hits the spike in sales will inspire TBS or Hallmark to make the Prince of Nothing/Aspect Emperor TV series? I sure hope so….
Wilshire, the following method is the fastest I know of to contact the author in question:
1) Gather these items: black candle (1), live rat (1), knife with bone handle – must be at least 8 inches long (1) , 1st editions of the author’s works – must all be different but do not need to be the same language (4), map of Earwa (1), small stone recently removed from a babbling brook (1), and a copy of Ambrose Bierce’s The Devil’s Dictionary.
2) Go to a remote crossroads before sunset. The crossroads should be at nearly 90 degrees for every angle.
3) Lay one copy of each book at every angle and sit in the center of the intersection.
4) Just after sunset, light the black candle and slice open the belly of the rat, spilling the blood and entrails out onto the map.
5) Read the definition for Mind from the dictionary out loud twelve times.
6) Using the black candle, drip wax onto the rat’s eyes until both are completely covered.
7) Place the small stone into your mouth and whisper your question into the rat’s ear.
8) Place the stone in the rat’s mouth and hold it up to your ear. Be still while the sound of air moving across the tongue-stone and the author’s answer will form in your mind.
Much easier to 1. Go to vox day’s site 2. Copy one of vox’s claims – pretty much any will do. 3. Post it here as if it were your own claim. 4. Add your question below it.
Though at the same time going to vox’s site feels like an excursion into the occult, so the whole crossroads thing might be a bit less freaky to do.
I’d rather go bakkerfan’s method then Callan’s. The latter may yield results more quickly, but at what cost?

You just say your in the dark because of the eye surgery. I see what you did there 😉
I didn’t zoom in enough until just now to see that the background of this is the the original Rankine cover :P. Must have subconsciously recognized this since I like it so much initially…
It’s my understanding that any input the author is allowed regarding cover art is entirely at the discretion of the publisher — and that they rarely care to consult.
No Chinese checks yet. I don’t even know if they’ve hit the shelves. But I’m all focus and no fringe: even without a small kid I probably wouldn’t be keeping track.
Guess you never know, but suddenly having 1 billion more people able to buy your books and read them is certainly exciting. Maybe you’ll be a big hit there, and we’ll have to somehow move Zaudunyanicon to Shanghai or something.
Though I don’t like how they used videos as the ‘reality’ part – I’m not sure if that’s a valid example of reality. Or if it is, it begs a question on ‘Oh, violent movies are just fantasies” assertions.
Any plans to post reviews of the series (or individual books) over at your blog? I like what you have written about Neuropath and Disciple of the Dog and would be very intersted in reading your thoughts on the Prince of Nothing series.
Yea, going to once I finish the series… may be a while (although I’m sure I’ll have some things to say about each individual book as well: working on one down the pipe on the first book may come out next month).
Off topic, but from a discussion at concious entities: – is there really some sort of difference between illusion and belief? Like it’s only one or the other? I mean with geocentricism – what’s the real difference? They believed the illusion. So why try and say illusion and belief are seperate (as in saying they are always seperate)?
Pretty good
He’ll build your social-media presence whether you like it or not, it would seem :P.
That’s got to be way up there for best cover.

Between the red and the exploding head, my first assumption was that it was the cover for Neuropath!
And everyone should follow bakkerfans on Pinterest, he has collected some great stuff there!
What I’d want for Neuropath is that the exploding fragments, on the right hand side of the cover, form Neils face in the red of the background between the chunks. Speaking of t-shirts, a reddit user made this one:

Wilshire has Disciple’s “I’d rather be masturbating” shirt :).
Yeah, fiancee made it for me for christmas a year two ago. It was a big hit at parties.
lordy Wilshire! 🙂
That bit comes from one of my buddies going to a job interview wearing that T-shirt, and being seriously pissed when he wasn’t offered the job.
it all connects! reality has meaning again!
Wow an actual person actually did that? Incredibly hilarious. Its funny in a book, but to think someone went to an interview… Amazing.
I like it – but it does make me think of:http://s251.photobucket.com/user/digsy59/media/629-RUSH-2112-10cm_zps96a5a596.jpg.html
dear god why
Well, they both depict a male figure and a circle. I always imagined it as DaVinci’s Vitruvian Man upside down… though I know Kellhus doesn’t have multiple arms and legs!
reichorn – i didnt get to read ur story the first time around and i had to dig to find it! whyd u take it down?

looking forward to reading what i have! 🙂

Any interest in posting them here, Rog?

Woohoo! I want to see it!
Awesome. Does that portend the series going Sci-fi/Fantasy mainstream? Perhaps when the next book hits the spike in sales will inspire TBS or Hallmark to make the Prince of Nothing/Aspect Emperor TV series? I sure hope so….
TUC is on its way to being an one of those Oprah book club things I think. Then the orders will really start pouring in.
That would be both hilarious and fitting…
Oprah did pick The Road…
Oprah (or atleast her fans) don’t even seem to be able to cope with someone jumping on a couch.
Wow, that’s beautiful. Is this a Chinese bilingual edition or something? Anyway, I want
Idk anyone who knows anything! Also i cant answer ur question.
I did some googleing and wasn’t able to find any for sale or really any information about it.
If only there was some way to contact the author…
Rumour has it, the author’s as much in the dark as anyone… and he doesn’t mind. 😉

What’s with the large C with the mark in it in the word “Prince?” Is it meant to echo the image of the Tusk?
That’s interesting. No idea… but on covers I really enjoy the German versions and this Chinese rendition that riff off Rankine’s Canadian PON covers.
Is it confirmation bias on my part, or do the books seem to inspire some art that is just a bit more intense than usual?
I love the original Rankine cover, it was what drew me to the book in the first place.
I didn’t zoom in enough until just now to see that the background of this is the the original Rankine cover :P. Must have subconsciously recognized this since I like it so much initially…
I know nothing about the publishing industry and I’m curious as to how much (if any) control the author has in cover art.
From the tone of this blog and Bakker’s comment above, it sounds like they needn’t consult him at all?
Hope he’s seeing those Chinese checks though.
It’s my understanding that any input the author is allowed regarding cover art is entirely at the discretion of the publisher — and that they rarely care to consult.
Pretty much. And the fact is, art departments generally know better than authors anyway – as I learned first hand!
No Chinese checks yet. I don’t even know if they’ve hit the shelves. But I’m all focus and no fringe: even without a small kid I probably wouldn’t be keeping track.

Imagination, reality flow in opposite directions in the brain
Though I don’t like how they used videos as the ‘reality’ part – I’m not sure if that’s a valid example of reality. Or if it is, it begs a question on ‘Oh, violent movies are just fantasies” assertions.
Here’s a rough translation of the tagline from my fiance:
The way you look at someone can change their heart. What you say can change their life…
Didn’t get it or got it too well?
seems true in my relationships
Really powerful image… I’ve just begun the second book in the series. May take me a while to finish the whole voyage, but it grows on you 🙂
The second book is my favorite!
It doesn’t just grow, enriches.
Just wait. You’ll get done and lose your mind like the rest of us, and have to go back and read it again.
And lo! It will be like a different book on the second go, and you’ll think to yourself “was all this hear the first time”?
New cover of The Unholy Consult is out…

Also, to re-ask, is there any such list of Bakker in various languages? It would make it easier to track down more covers. 0u0

Funny how easily the philosophical question is answered at the end – injecting human brain cells into mice: http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn26639-the-smart-mouse-with-the-halfhuman-brain.html?cmpid=RSS|NSNS|2012-GLOBAL|online-news#.VH0MOWe1e1l
Also you’ve got Hawkman on side about the AIpocalypse
Off-topic. Just finished DotD last night. Damn, a lot of lol-ing. Enjoyed it immensely.
Ohhh cooling Tusk
